It creates a tension between people and the use of this section of the landscape, and puts a high price on the coastline.The book as a tool for presenting this research serves to slowly unravel the magnitude of the artificial pools with a view towards the sea. One after another they add up until they become sixty-five. Collecting these relics of touristic architecture is a statement for their existence and a snapshot of the time and space in which they are possible. The text throughout the book is original quotes from hotels' websites. Scattered in between the pools are drawings of the landscapes around the hotels, abandoned dunes, mini-golf playgrounds, fake rocks, discoballs ... The project is about Sunny Beach, the biggest and most well-known beach resort on the Black Sea, originally created in the 1950's. Construction and urbanization of this area was carefully planned and under control until the 90's. After the Fall of Communism, the resort was privatized and pieces of it were distributed among many owners, who started building or reselling the land. In the 2000's the resort grew from 35 000 to 300 000 beds. ‘a useless guide to Vartopo and its weeds’ is the outcome of a collaboration with the ethnobotanist Francesca Castagnetti.&nbsp; Challenging notions of beauty and usefulness in our relationship to land and plants this publication is the result of our collaborative work centred around Vartopo, a vast meadow on the edge of Sofia which is neither city nor garden. Published by the Centre for Social Vision the book investigates people’s natural inclination to collect, name and classify, and questions the language we use to talk about plants, as well as the values we attach to them. Loosely inspired by herbaria and botanical field guides, it challenges these formats and the way they mediate our relationship to plants. The book contains plants in the order in which we encountered them when we entered Vartopo, as well as texts and references, which emerged in our conversations about them and hidden in folded pages in between the plants. The unfolding cover is a key to how to understand both the guide, the place, and how to use this knowledge to navigate through other spaces. <img width="3588" height="2673" width_o="3588" marks the 80th anniversary of Tekla Alexieva’s birth. The retrospective exhibition in Sofia City Art Gallery seeks to draw a map of the artist’s work, outlining the many directions it took in her easily recognizable signature style and visual language. Tekla Alexieva is one of the few artists whose work spans multiple visual arts and the requisite techniques, mediums and means of expression. Throughout her career, she has worked in the genres of painting, mural painting, book illustration and book design, printmaking, animation, stained glass painting, embroidery.&nbsp;The exhibition features more than 120 works. It is accompanied by a catalogue.The main concept behing the catalogue design was to reference her big contribition to books, mostly for the Galaxy science fiction collection published before 1989. The book presents a collection of archive photos from the factory’s history, from personal archives, from state archives, company photos showing the history of Bulgaria’s industrial development in the past century and postcards. A significant section of it are the photos and the scans of the portfolio of the factory from the beginning of the 20th century up until 2024, including boxes, chocolate bars, special edition chocolates, tins etc.&nbsp; The book was completed together with Tihomir Stoyanov @visualarchive.bg who collected and scanned the visual material.&nbsp;The book was created on the occation of the anniverssary and was a company gift. The book is designed in close collaboration with Eugenia Maximova. “On October 6, 2018, 30-year old television journalist Victoria Marinova was brutally raped and murdered in the Bulgarian city of Ruse. In broad daylight, the young woman went for a run by the Danube from which she never returned. Applying an artistic as well as documentary approach, Vienna-based photographer Eugenia Maximova takes a walk around the city of Ruse and tells a tale about it. Marinova’s death may not have been politically motivated – in the wider sense it certainly is. In her ongoing photo project Silent River, Maximova addresses this larger socio-political context. In addition, she looks at the emotional repercussions because Maximova is also personally affected: the murdered journalist had been her sister-in-law and friend. Silent River thus seeks to raise questions as much as it documents a personal journey of grief and loss, of anger and despair. It positions itself explicitly against how mainstream media depict violence. Instead, Maximova captures elegiac views of the city of Ruse, empty spaces, many of which in a desolate state yet not without beauty. The project seeks to map out a subjective topography of the murder in that it follows not one but two trajectories: that of Victoria Marinova and that of her alleged murderer Severin K. as they both move through the post-Communist cityscape until their paths cross on the banks of the Danube.
