Outcomes of a research residency between Sofia, Marseille and Galicia, during which I worked with textiles, ceramics and drawing on topics around soil pollution.
Throughout the residency I produced a 6 m flag with pieces of silk, dyed over the course of one year, with endemic and invasive plants from three territories: fig and blue tobacco (harvested in the summer in La Citadelle Marseille); eucalyptus bark and leaves, oak galls, chestnut leaves (picked up in autumn in Froxan, Galicia); mulberry leaves (from Stochna Gara, Sofia, harvested in spring).
I also produced paintings with glaze on ceramic tiles, portraying the beings living on polluted soils and asking questions about belonging and what we label as invasive, endemic and deserving to cohabit spaces with us.
